Civic Forum gets lucky with the Lottery

We're pleased to announce that we have been successful in our campaign to raise funds for a scale model of the Meadows Edge area of Belper.  A combination of £3,250 from the Big Lottery and £200 from Belper Rotary Club has enabled us to commission Robin Pierce of local design practice Poco Design.  He will make the wooden model, which will cover the area from the East and North Mill to Morrisons, and from the railway to the river.

Having a 3d model will make the whole process of planning much more accessible to a wide range of interests and ages - the plan is for it to be available to assist anyone who wants to put their viewpoint forward, with removable pieces representing certain buildings.  Local groups, including schools, local authorities and potential developers will all be able to borrow the model, as well as for Civic Forum members to use.  It is particularly timely, as Amber Valley Borough Council have just re-started the consultation process for their development brief for the Meadows Edge area, which includes the old Thornton's factory site currently owned by Tesco.

We hope that the model will be completed early in 2012, and will soon announce a meeting for Civic Forum members to view progress.  If you have any questions about the Meadows Edge concept model and the development process, please contact Roger Shelley at belpercivicforum@hotmail.co.uk or phone 01773 829176.
