The Civic Forum's Adrian Farmer has produced a superb quiz based on photos of historic shop frontages in Belper.  Can you identify these?  Forms are available from the Strutt Centre, Derby Road, and from the Forum's stalls at the River Gardens on 11 July and at the Food Festival on 18 July.  Forms need to be returned by 31 July.

Earlier in the year, the Civic Forum ran a petition for the County Council to negotiate with the Co-op to consider converting the Somerfield supermarket on King Street in Belper into a new library for the town. We would like to thank over 300 people who signed the petition.  It now turns out that the Belper store has been bought by Lincolnshire-based supermarket chain Haldanes stores, with a restriction that it continued to be used as a supermarket.

About 60 Belper shops completed a short questionnaire recently about their hopes and concerns for retailing in the town. The Civic Forum felt this was necessary to gauge the opinions of an important section of the community, one which does a great deal to shape the character of the town.
